Solve Your Problems On A Trail

September 29, 2012  •  Leave a Comment

Last night I went to sleep ticked.  And late, about midnight is when I finally closed my eyes.  I didn't sleep very soundly and woke up remembering the problem I was ticked about.  Dang it, the thing probably hadn't worked its way out yet.  That was about 4:30am and I just lay there considering all of the options I could take.  Nothing felt right.  Simmer simmer simmer.

Then other ideas started darting across my mind's billboard.  "COFFEE"  "Happy Face Hill"  "The Ditch Run"  "Go run" "Should I run a Ragnar distance?"  "What ARE my Ragnar distances?"  "Maybe I will run the Fresh & Easy Run" "I don't want to miss sunrise."  "I wonder if Randy will want to run too."

805BC and Happy Face Hill I wondered what time it was, I'd been just tossing back and forth.  I grab my phone SUPER quietly but it still work Randy up.  So I asked him, "do you want to go run?"  "Uhhh...duh...yes!" and he was on his feet in a second (I'm sure so we can hurry and get out there before I change my mind.)  "How long do you want to run?"  "My easiest Ragnar distance.  I want to get really comfortable on that first.  I think it's 4.3 or 4.7 miles."

The Hummingbird Trail has a great view of the Happy Face Hill I've taken shots of for years now.  That's where I want to run.  It's 2.1 miles up to Amanda's bench and 1.9 down (because I take the short cuts).

About 1 mile up I started picking at that thing that was ticking me off again.  Talking it out and thinking about healthy solutions to it took about 1 more mile.  By the time I got to Rocky Peak and Amanda's bench I'd made some pretty awesome conclusions and have solved my problem.  DONE.

Now I get the whole 2.2 miles DOWN to solve even more problems, which I did!

As a bonus at the bottom of the trail (where it dips into that dry creek bed) I got to get about 10 feet away from a giant hawk!  Unfortunately I did not have my Canon, I had my iPhone.  But I got to video it sitting and looking for breakfast then taking off.

What a great start.

Thanks to Randy and Kona for taking me safely up to Amanda's bench and helping me figure out my problems.

Sitting in my house at my desk would NEVER have had the same result.

Have you ever solved life problems while out running?

PS:  Oh, and my opinion of the new Happy Face?  It's smaller and they moved it for some reason.  Also, I read a newspaper story about it being ruined in a fire (??) which is not true.  I heard the man that was keeping it up was not allowed on the property by the owners that purchased that land to build condos.  It is great that is is there, but it definitely isn't the same as before.
